Tools
The documentation of our custom tools represents the baseline feature set. Every customer installation starts there, but evolves significantly as the tools are adapated to their particular needs.
While some emphasis exists on ClearCase, the tools are generally designed to be workable in any environment. A comparative analysis" examines the features of three commonly used systems.
We provide three major tool sets:
- ClearCase Extension Pack
- This is a set of trigger, wrapper and type manager scripts which provide an easy to use abstraction layer on top of basic ClearCase. As such it has many similarities to Rational's UCM, but since this tool set predates UCM, it is significantly more evolved and differs in crucial areas.
- BugDB
- This is a minimalistic, web based change tracking system. Contrary to most other vendors of change tracking system, we made a significant effort to reduce features, fields, bells and whistles. Our advantage as a service company is that we can start from this minimalistic baseline and adapt to your needs.
- Autodiscovering Build System
- Writing makefiles is considered a black art. Most developers don't bother spending significant effort in making them work reliably. Even if they do, makefiles can be choke points for change, requiring constant merging. This build system removes these choke points by using the information encoded in the source files and the source tree structure to incrementally generate build instructions.
The tool sets are designed to be usable separately and can be downloaded for free.
